(now with pics) THIS is what I was waiting to write about...

I knew this day was coming, so I was holding off blogging until I could write this.. but then that letter arrived, blah whatever :)

Way way way back in 2005, I started this blog because I was doing a PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) weight loss study.

My weight when I started was 101kgs, which is 222.6 pounds or 16 stone.

I lost a little bit of weight through the study, gained it all back during a bad relationship... and finally now I can say....

As of this morning.......

I'VE LOST 20 KILOS!!!!!!!!!!!!

(44 pounds and 3.14 stone)

I am now 81kgs, (178.5 pounds and 12.7 stone)

I love exercising too.. wow!

I swim and run/walk/jog, and every day I can run a little bit further.

I feel so good inside.. going from a size 22-24 down to a size 14 makes me want to cry with happiness!

I still have at least 16 kgs to go and that first 20 was hard. I don't want to be super slim, I love being curvy.

Now that my head is in order and my life is flowing, the weight is finally dropping because I am happily putting the effort in.
I started using a weight loss helper about 9 weeks ago, (Thank you G and small man, for all of your help) and that little thing has totally changed the way I view food and has opened my eyes to the fact that I WILL lose weight and I am so grateful for it, with it I have lost 9kgs.

Oh Happy Day!!!!!!!

In the being was it terribly hard to do any form of exercise for more than a minute or two without being out of breath and physically exhausted? Because that's where I'm at and it's discouraging to say the least. I'm okay at work, but at home or out walking? I'd rather just lie down and sleep.

Thanks Jewell :)

Hi River :) Honestly the more I changed my diet the more energy I had, I walked a lot to start with, I would make the effort to do things like walk to the shop, the weight loss places call it "Incidental Exercise" because it's exercising while doing other tasks. Because I have problems with my arm I bought a roller bag, so that was a good way to do some shopping, and use that as some weight to drag.
The running is a new thing with me, always wanted to run, KMart had a sale on runners so I'm finally giving it a go. I start off walking and then I set myself small goals like "ok I'm going to run to the end of the street.." that turns into "I'm going to run the length of the block" and now "I'm going to run up the hill and around the whole block"
Do that with your walking, set small goals, start with a few days of a few hundred metres and eventually you'll progress. I remember years ago a woman wrote a book about how she started exercising by walking to her clothesline and back! I think it was called "The Clothesline Diet"

I also like to swim, even back when I was bigger and that's fantastic exercise. I was a little embarrassed to start with but I found people to be friendly and encouraging. I had a mantra that I'd say over and over in my head as I was getting ready for a swim "If these people have nothing better to do than look at me, then that's their problem, and besides, I'll never see them again" That made it easier for me to be in public in a bathing suit. I'm only 5'2 so I was very round and eventually not self conscious at the pool :) I wear a bikini now even though I'm still not tiny lol
I started off swimming a few hundred metres, very slowly and gradually progressed, some days I swim 1km (20 laps), other days I swim 3kms (60 laps) I use a kickboard when my arm is in pain and needs a rest, but the rest of my body wants to keep going, just because one part of my body is a bit abnormal it doesn't mean I have to make the rest of me suffer. I also have little swimming flippers which give my butt, calves and thighs a workout.

Have a read of this
http://www.howtobefit.com/swimming-weight-loss.htm

I also use a website http://www.fitday.com
I track my weight, set goals, and generally see how things are going with my BMI etc through that site.

The biggest hurdle to exercising is actually getting up to do it :)
You might be tired and want to lay down, but when you start walking your endorphins will kick in and you'll feel awake and so happy.

Something clicked inside me this time and the determination is strong :)

You look absolutely fabulous!! Well done on the weight loss. I know it can be really hard to lose weight and so easy to gain weight!
Have fun with your new body :)

I already walk quite a bit, to and from work each day, it's about a km each way, and I'm on my feet the whole time there, I'm a checkout operator, so there are plenty of little steps involved and a fair bit of weight lifting. (groceries) I have a problem with my neck and lower back so I'm seeing a chiropractor soo to make sure everything is okay in those areas before I start other things. I'm definitely going to be swimming, just have to buy a kickboard to help out there since it's been sooooo long. I'm only 5 feet tall and 73kgs which doesn't sound like much, but the excess weight is putting a fair amount of strain on my joints, hence the desire to lose. My ideal weight is 55kgs and while I may not make it all the way back, i'll be happy to at least start losing.
